Rob Antonides – CEO of  Apex Motion Control

Rob Antonides is the founder and CEO of Apex Motion Control, a manufacturer of robotics for the food and beverage industry.  Rob is an expert in robotics, vision and manufacturing processes. Trained as an Electrical Engineer, he started the company almost 20 years ago and became a specialist in high-speed, high-precision motion control and 3D and 2D vision systems.  Apex is the world leader in the decoration of cakes, cookies and other baked goods. Rob has also consulted on a wide variety of projects including military, amusement park rides, oil and gas exploration and pharmaceutical manufacturing systems.  Rob is proud to sponsor this event and is passionate about educating the next generation of engineering professionals and encouraging up-and-coming engineers to develop their professional careers.

Terry Calderbank – Project Engineer at Apex Motion Control and BCIT ELEC BEng Graduate

Terry Calderbank is a Project Engineer at Apex Motion Control and a 2019 graduate of BCIT’s Electrical Engineering program. He currently leads projects involving the use of collaborative robots to automate tasks with the assistance of sensors, machine vision, and custom user interfaces. Terry’s past contributions to BCIT include peer tutoring, running BCIT’s drop-in archery program, as well as being a previous chair of the IEEE BCIT student branch. Having previously been involved in the organizing of the RC Classic event, Terry is proud to help out again and would like to wish all the competitors the best of luck.

Duncan Ensing – Project Engineer at Apex Motion Control and SFU Mechatronics Graduate

Duncan started working for Apex Motion Control in 2012 as a student co-op and has been involved with
the company ever since. After graduating from SFU's Mechatronics Engineering program in 2016 he took
on a full time role as a project engineer. Apex Motion Control specializes in factory automation in the
food and beverage industry, providing custom machines for all applications worldwide.

Patrick Lam – Outside Sales Representative at Eaton

Patrick has been working with Eaton for the last 2 years as a Product Specialist responsible for custom order engineering and production of commercial panelboards and motor control products. Recently, he moved into a sales role focusing on industrial markets in the Lower Mainland.

Steven McClain – Assistant Instructor in the BCIT ECET Dept. and Secretary of IEEE Vancouver Section

Steven has worked with computers and technology for over 30 years.  He has a Bachelor of Technology from BCIT Computer Systems. He has been an active member of IEEE Vancouver section for the last 15 years and has worked at BCIT as an Assistant Instructor for the last four.

Craig Hennessey – Instructor in the BCIT ECET Dept. and founder of Gazepoint

Dr. Craig Hennessey founded the eye-tracking start-up Gazepoint in 2013. The eye-gaze tracking technology requires significant image processing, which was the motivation to include image processing in ELEX4618 and 4699. His hope is that students with 4618/4699 experience will have the tools, skills and desire to start their own companies. As well as win the RC classic.
